GrijsGebied originally sold out in 2003, but is still reviewed and receives radio play five years after it's release. Darren Scott: GrijsGebied was the beginning of H/S Recordings and put us on the map. Both myself and Matthew where involved with the huge internet community gathered on mp3.com at the time and we received a lot of help from them in promoting and making the release the success it is today. I find this very appropriate as the approach mirrors that of Matthew's direction on this album. His collaborators also met though the internet. It includes the contributions of many people but it still has this unique, consistent and mesmerizing flow to it, which I find typical of Matthew's work.
There's a danger it could be dismissed as soundtrack music but it's nice to see someone flying the true ambient flag in this commercialised world of so-called chillout - Future Music Magazine
It's no exaggeration to say that this is a hugely important album in the annals of electronica and if you're at all interested in the genre, you simply must hear it. Birmingham Post and Mail
The CD offers up ten tracks of imaginative, even surreal at times, floating and drone ambience. Since the music here can be darkly beautiful at times, a person can be excused if he/she just floats away into the netherzone and stops trying to analyze what one is hearing - Wind And Wire
